The summer season with long opening hours of the Disneyland Park and daily performances of Disney's Fantillusion! as well as Wishes are over - and now the unofficial numbers are rolling in. After a conspicious absence of reports about long lines in July and August the numbers now seem to confirm dire forecasts: according to internal sources the Disneyland Park missed it goal of an average daily attendance of 55,000 during the summer season by far, as most days the attendance is rumored to have been around 45,000 only. From an outside position it is impossible to say whether this was in any way related to the bad word of mouth the new nighttime spectacular "Wishes" received from parts of the fanbase, but the management did react and tweaked the show throughout the summer. After adding some additional illumination effects behind the castle early in the run more fireworks were added in August which, according to those guests able to compare the different versions, did further improve Wishes.
In reaction to the disappointing numbers some surprising ideas seem to have sprung up amid management - at least if you believe the internal rumor mill, which went into overdrive. The latest buzz: the idea to shorten or even cut the whole summer season in the current form and instead offer prolonged opening hours and night time entertainment on weekends outside July / August as well! Long opening hours on weekends and nigth time entertainment is already the rule year round in the other Disney resorts and used to be a fixture in the early years of DLRP as well. Right now it needs to be stressed though, that these are only RUMORS of IDEAS played around with. So stay tuned as we await the ruling on the summer season 2006...

Die Sommer-Saison mit ihren langen Öffnungszeiten für den Disneyland Park und tägliche Präsentationen von Disney's Fantillusion sowie Wishes ist vorbei - und jetzt trudeln die Zahlen ein. Nachdem im Juli und August Berichte über lange Wartezeiten bereits auffällig selten waren, scheinen sich nun die düsteren Prognosen zu erfüllen: laut internen Quellen soll das Ziel einer durchschnittlichen Besucherzahl von 55.000 weit verfehlt worden sein, sollen sich meist nur knappe 45.000 Gäste im Disneyland Park eingefunden haben. Zwar lässt sich für Aussenstehende nicht beurteilen, ob die enttäuschenden Zahlen mit der schlechten Mundpropaganda eines Teils der Fans für Wishes zusammenhing, allerdings hat das Management versucht darauf zu reagieren und den ganzen Sommer über noch an der Präsentation gearbeitet. Nachdem schon in den ersten Tagen zusätzliche Lichteffekte ergänzt wurden, wurde dann im August die Menge der Feuerwerkraketen erhöht. Laut Gästen, die die verschiedenen Versionen vergleichen konnten, verbesserte sich Wishes dadurch deutlich.
Auf jeden Fall scheinen als Reaktion auf die enttäuschenden Zahlen einige überraschenden Ideen im Management entstanden zu sein - jedenfalls wenn man der internen Gerüchteküche glaubt, die zur Zeit wieder auf Hochtouren läuft. Die neueste "Meldung": es soll die Idee geben, die Sommer-Saison zu verkürzen oder ganz zu streichen und stattdessen an Wochenenden außerhalb des Juli und August verlängerte öffnungszeiten und Nighttime-Entertainment zu bieten. Das ist das ganze jahr über in den anderen Disney Resorts schon üblich und war auch in den ersten Jahren von DLRP einmal umgesetzt worden. Allerdings muss festgehalten werden: es handelt sich bisher nur um GERÜCHTE über IDEEN, die zur Zeit diskutiert werden. Also dran bleiben, während wir auf die Entscheidung über das Schicksal Sommer-Saison 2006 warten...
