The Disneyland Resort Paris this spring already repeatedly adjusted its opening hours, as reported amongst others earlier today here. But its quest to improve the guest experience doesn't stop there as other measures are being tested or fully implemented. One of the fully implemented features is the opening of Autopia, which in the past years used to be closed except for high high season.
Till recently the resort also tested "Extra Magic Hours" in the Disneyland Park, which either allowed guests of the 7 Disney Hotels to enter the park prior to its official opening and enjoy selected rides (e.g. Buzz Lightyear and Space Mountain Mission 2), or which extended the operating hours past the official closing time. In the latter case all guests were allowed to stay in the park, enjoy the atmosphere and do some extra shopping or have a leisurely dinner, but only guests of the 7 Disney Hotels were allowed on selected rides (e.g. Big Thunder Mountain). The result: some irritated guests staying at out-side hotels such as the Val d'France hotels but extremly happy Disney hotel guests.
Now it is time for the next test, starting on Sunday May 14 and lasting till May 27: "Demand Based Operating Hours". During the test period the opening and closing times of the Disneyland Park is determined on short notice depending on the expected and actual guest numbers. If up to 21,000 guests are expected the Disneyland Park will operate from 10.00 am till 6.00 pm, if more than 21,000 but less than 31,000 guests are expected the park will open from 10.00 am till 8.00 pm and finally as of 31,000 guests the park will open either at 9.00 am or 10.00 and close at 9.00 pm or 11.00 pm (depending on the date).
With this new concept guests will be granted extra time to compensate for the longer waiting times which come with more guests in the park. Whether this concept will be implemented in the future depends on the guest reactions during the upcoming test period and ultimately the decision of the management, just as is the case with the "Extra Magic Hours". The management decision might also be influenced by the reaction of the cast members which were just informed about a new proposal for their contracts by the resort which would give the resort more freedom to determine the work hours and change them also on short notice - as necessary for concepts as the "Demand Based Hours". So far none of the unions has accepted the new proposal, but at least in these two weeks guests may hope to exceed the number of 31,000 guests to be able to enjoy the magical atmosphere after dask in the illuminated Disneyland Park.
