As announced earlier this year, the very first coaster of the Disneyland Park, Big Thunder Mountain, has been closed for a lengthy refurbishment on August 21st. After the mountain had been cleaned already during the summer in the off-hours, the crews have moved in with heavy equipment as soon as the summer season officially ended. Only this year the small water fall at the top of the first lift hill had been replaced with a new water effect (high pressured water sprayed "fog-like"), which unfortunately frequently malfunctioned.
To make things more difficult most material needs to be shuttled to the island with a small ferry, which is also used to reach certain sections of the island around its shore-line. But the majority of the mountain is painted by special trained crews suspended like mountain climbers form the highest rock sections. In the meantime their colleagues are able to enjoy the relative comfort of scaffoldings placed around the major wood structures, e.g. the building housing the flashes for the one-ride-photos.
